LOLER & PUWER Regulations
The Lifting Operations, Lifting Equipment Regulations
came into force on 5th December 1998 as Statutory Instrument (SI)
2307 as such LOLER replaces all earlier lifting equipment legislation
for example the Factories Act (s.27) and the Construction (Lifting
Ops) Regulations 1961.
The regulations are aimed primarily at the type of
equipment previously covered by earlier legislation i.e. cranes, lifts,
hoists and accessories including chains, ropes, slings, hooks, shackles
and eyebolts.
The Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations
came into force on 5th December 1998 as Statutory Instrument (SI)
2306 as such PUWER imposes certain duties on an employer (inc. self-employed),
in respect of work equipment, the way it is used and the extent of
that control.
